Abstract

This thesis has 3 objectives, namely:- 1. To study the Doctrinal essence in Rathavinīta Sutta, to study the 7 Visuddhis in Rathavinīta Sutta and to study the principles of practicing Vipassanā in Rathavinīta Sutta by studying the data from the Theravāda Buddhist Scriptures:- The three Baskets, the Commentaries and the Sub-commentaries including the data from the connected documents, and then brought them to be composed and expained in the pattern of description and checking the correct essence by the expert teacher.

From the study, it is found that Rathavinīta Sutta is the Sutta collected and composed by Phra Dharmasangāhakācaryan in Majjhima Nikāya Scripture, Mūlapaṇṇāsaka after the level of Kakacūpama Sutta, Alagadāūpama Sutta and Vammika Sutta with the important Doctrinal Principles of the important essences which are shown in Rathavinīta Sutta that is the discourse dealing with the 7 royal cars which mean
7 Visuddhis which mean the purities higher in order. This point means the doctrines purifying the human beings to be pure and coursing the Three fold Training to be complete step by step up to attaining the target :- Nibbāna. This purity is divided into
7 steps as follows:- 1.SilaVisuddhi, 2.CittaVisuddhi, 3.Diṭṭhi Visuddhi, 4.Kankhāvitaraṇa Visuddhi, 5.Maggā-magga-ñāṇadassana Visuddhi, 6.Paṭipadāñāṇadassana Visuddhi and 7.Ñāṇadassana Visuddhi. To attain Nibbāna, one must use all these 7 Visuddhis as the targets.

The 7 Visuddhis in Rathavinīta Sutta found that Rathavinīta Sutta is the Sutta dealing the 7 royal cars which mean 7 Visuddhis, the purities of seven types, namely:- 1.Sila Visuddhi, 2.Citta Visuddhi, 3.Ditthi Visuddhi, 4.Kankhāvitarana Visuddhi, 5.Maggā-magga- NānadassanaVisuddhi, 6.Patipadāñānadassana Visuddhi and 7.Nānadassana Visuddhi. These 7 Visuddhis (Purities) are the factors step by step in order to attain Nibbāna. They are compared with the 7 cars which help the people to reach the final target called “Nibbāna”.

From the study, it is The Insight Meditation is the practice to cause the wisdom to arise and to realize the Form and the Norm as of the state of impermance, suffering and soullessness which appear in the types of the Four Noble Truths. Buddha preached the mentioned principles in Mahāsatipatthāna Sutta as follows :- Oh! Monks! This path is the only one for the purity of all the human beings, for being away from the sorrow, the lamentation, the suffering and the mental sorrow and to attain the insight knowledge and to attain Nibbāna. This way of practice is called “Catu Satipatthāna”.

On the other hand, the meditation which is connected with the body, feeling, the mind and the Dharmas does not arise. So, one should know that those practices have gone away from the sorrow and the lamentation by this way. So, the Insight Meditation must be carried out according only to the principles of the Four Foundations of Mindfulness.
